“The ad might read, ‘Percussionist wanted, preferably marimba player, for jazz-influenced band. Must be able to improvise, bob head and wear metal,” writes CNN Reporter Valerie Streit in her April 29, 2010 story. “And the perfect candidate? It may be Shimon, a marimba-playing robot that, despite having four arms, is remarkably human. It has a shiny aluminum-steel head that bobs with the music and acknowledges other people when they’re nearby.”
And, when the new ZOOZbeat app launched in October 2009, CNN Reporter John Sutter wrote: “The iPhone’s accelerometer, which allows users to control apps by titling the phone, makes the ZOOZbeat app possible, said [Dr.] Gil Weinberg, director of the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology and founder of ZOOZbeat.”
“ZOOZbeat will change the face of music,” says Atlanta Hip-Hop Artist Street Lotto in this three minuteCNN Video interview that aired today (10/14) [and updated: 10/24/09] the same day that ZOOZ Mobile introduced its new ZOOZbeat Music reCreation Studio.

“We can create some [music] together. It lets the listener be interactive with the music. Especially at a time like this when you got bloggers that have something to say about everything gone on. … This let’s the consumer do the same with music. It allows them to remix it and do it themselves.”
“We let [Artists] connect to [their] fans in new ways. ZOOZbeat allows you to get your favorite music from your favorite Artists and make your own version. Personalized it,” says ZOOZ Mobile Founder and Chief Technology Officer Gil Weinberg.
“I really like the new ability to remix and reCreate songs,” says ZOOZ Mobile Lead Engineer Mark Godfrey. “It lets you get in and explore songs instead of just passively listening to them. You can see what they are made of; all the different parts and re-arrange them and make them your own. It’s pretty cool.” says ZOOZ Mobile Lead Engineer Mark Godfrey.
The CNN story goes on to quote Gil: “You don’t have to have a lot of money, and you also don’t have to have a lot of experience in music to be a [ZOOZbeat] iPhone musician. We will help you experience whatever level of creativity that you would like.”
Jason, we love you too. Thank you for the awesome review of ZOOZbeat Pro in your fandomania post the week of September 14, 2009.
Here is an excerpt from Jason Dorough’s review:
I was a little wary when I first fired this one up and unleashed my utter lack of skill. I have to admit, though, that the game (app? tool?) really has grown on me, especially after I watched some YouTube videos of people showing me how it’s really done. There are several flavors of ZOOZ available through iTunes’s App Store, but the one I played was the Pro, which currently is selling for $4.99. If you’re a music fan and like playing with tracks and loops in an easy-peasy interface, this just might be worth checking out.
